The Millennium Development Goals
The UN General Assembly adopted « The Millennium Declaration » in September 2000. The declaration sets forth a series of quantified and time-bound goals that subsequently became the eight Millennium Development Goals, or MDG’s:
- Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger
- Achieve universal primary education
- Promote gender equality and empower women
- Reduce child mortality
- Improve maternal health
- Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases
- Ensure environmental sustainability
- Develop a global partnership for development
